She grew up in Seoul and graduated from Konkuk University with a degree in Department of Consumer Information Science. After building various careers such as PR, marketer, and wedding stylist, she gave up everything and went down to Jeju Island to start writing. She made her debut in NAVER webnovel with her first novel ‘Blusher and Concealer.’

She worked as a promotional planning account executive for Prain, a drama planning producer for FNC Entertainment, and a writer for Keyeast, and is currently a member of the drama production company Bon Factory. The novel ‘The Forbidden Marriage’ has been webtoonized and is being published in a series on NAVER webtoon on Friday. Her dream is to write interesting writings regardless of media and genre as an all-round creator who crosses poetry, novels, and dramas.

We say to a friend who writes well around you, “Why don’t you write a webnovel?”That’s not wrong at all. Because anyone can challenge writing a webnovel regardless of careers. However, talents such as ideas, writing skills, and understanding of webnovels are quite necessary. The career is not necessary, but talent is necessary. That’s inevitable, and yet for readers who are interested in a webnovel writer, I met a writer Chun Zi-hye.

Chun Zi-hye, a writer has published a serial of webnovels ‘Blusher and Concealer’, ‘The Forbidden Marriage’, and ‘My Male Puppy’ on NAVER, and ‘The Forbidden Marriage’ will also be made into a braodcast drama. She was the “Queen of the contests.” When she was in school, she swept marketing contests and joined a famous public relations company before graduating, but she became a webnovel writer after many twists and turns. Perhaps that’s why she was different from the image of a novelist that I imagined.

She analyzes readers and develops items through surrounding reactions. She said she would make 300 plans and plan all eye-catching points before writing a novel. It feels like a fusion of marketing expert and novelist. (A voice was very good as well. An unfair world)
E: Originally, you started your career at a public relations company called Prain, how did you come to write a web novel?

Chun: That’s a long story. Where should I start?

E: Please speak leisurely. I have a lot of time today.

Chun: Ah, yes. During my three years in university, I worked hard on external activities and contests. I created and ran a cafe for the contest. I was the queen of the contests. Thanks to that experiences, I joined the PR company, Prain, when I was a junior in university. I spent about a year studying and working together, and then I worked as as wedding marketer and wedding stylist. I ran all the way without taking a leave of absence, and the burnout came quickly.

E: It’s famous for hard work in public reations.

Chun: I worked like a real North Korean female soldier. I got exhausted when I was 26, and I couldn’t do anything. So I went to Jeju Island for a vacation.

E: Did you go to Jeju Island with the thought of burning up your creative dream?

Chun: Not at all. Sorry. (Laugh) It was just a break time. I thought about getting a job again as a marketing PR.

E: But...

Chun: But the library is close to the accommodation I’m staying at. I read a lot of books because the environment for reading them was so good. But then NAVER first started a webnovel, there was a webnovel contest. As I said before, I’m the queen of contests. This is also a kind of contest, so I decided to try it, and I wrote three studies.

E: Was that selected?

Chun: No, it fell.

E: But...

Chun: There is a “Challenge League” where you can serialize webnovels like “Challenge Cartoon” in webtoons. I was selected there and officially published a webnovel on NAVER. It was amazing that I got a chance after a month of writing.

E: Tell me the truth. Did you write your fanfic when you were young?

Chun: I’ve read it what my friends across reading. I’ve never written it.

E: Did you read a lot of books when you were in university student?

Chun: As much as others? I like books, but I had a lot to do and was busy.

E: Yes, you worked as a drama producer in the middle, but you changed to a full-time writer, right?

Chun: My dream was to be a drama writer. I came to Seoul to study drama while writing a webnovel, and FNC Entertainment offered me a job after viewing favorably my studies. I worked hard during the day and wrote novels at night for quite a long time, but I was very struggling. Eventually, I left the company and went back to Jeju Island. I was able to serialize the manuscript of my next work on NAVER a litter later.

E: Some people around me also recommend that do write it at work because it is uneasy about just being a writer. Would it be hard?

Chun: I think that’s also necessary. If you write at work and think, “I think I’ll write well if I have time,” shouldn’t you make a decision? Even if you have a lot of time, you can skip it. You started, but you can’t finish it. It could be like this. I don’t think it would be bad to go through the test period in advance.

E: You have a book, and also ‘The Forbidden Marriage’ is being dramatized, right?

Chun: Yes, the copyright is sold. It  happened because a drama production company liked it. On the other hand, I am working hard on promoting work for the drama while webnovels. So I’m doing two jobs.

E: It is a last question. What kind of person do you want to be through life?

Chun: I wish I had the energy to find my way progressively. In fact, whether it’s a webnovel writer or a drama writer, the door is narrow. How frustrating it must be. In the creative world, where there is no answer, I think it is an effort to find the way. I wish I could be that kind of person.
